In 1977, he entered the Faculty of Medicine of Hubei Medical University (now the School of Medicine of Wuhan University). In 1982, he received a bachelor's degree in medicine from Hubei Medical University. In 1985, he obtained a master's degree in obstetrics and gynecology from Hubei Medical University. He went to Belgium for further study in 1989 and received a master's degree in biomedicine from Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium in 1991. From 1992 to 1995, he served as the chief director of the ICSI technology startup and the director of the preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) laboratory. In 1995, he received his PhD in biomedicine from Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium. From 1995 to 2002, he served as director of the Assisted Reproduction Center and director of the PGD laboratory at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in the United States. In 2003, he was appointed as a professor at Wuhan University. Beijing Jia En De Yun Hospital was founded in 2004. The Genetics Laboratory of Jia En De Yun Hospital was established in 2011. He has published more than 100 papers in internationally renowned academic journals, and has developed a number of internationally pioneering technologies, such as the world's first preimplantation embryo DMD diagnostic technology, the world's first application of ICSI in PGD, ultra-rapid single-cell DNA fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) technology for preimplantation embryos, and repetitive single-cell DNA FISH technology for preimplantation embryos. He has won several awards in the field of international reproductive medicine: In 1990, he received the "Young Scientist Award" from the Belgian-Netherlands Embryology Society; In 1993, he received the Atlantic Reproductive Medicine Communication Award jointly awarded by the American and European reproductive medicine societies; In 1998, he received the "Assisted Reproductive Technology Award" jointly awarded by the American and World reproduction and contraception societies.

Dr. Jiaen Liu has been engaged in infertility treatment and assisted reproductive technology for decades. He is an expert at conventional in vitro fertilization (IVF-ET), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), formulation of personalized ovarian stimulation protocols, intrauterine insemination (IUI), preimplantation embryo DMD diagnostic technology, in vitro maturation of testicular sperm, single-cell DNA fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) technology for preimplantation embryos, and repetitive single-cell DNA FISH technology for preimplantation embryos.
